Massasoit Names Alumna and Hall of Famer Joneiha Veiga Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Massasoit Community College is proud to announce the appointment of Joneiha Veiga as the new Head Coach of the Women's Basketball program. A proud Brockton native, Massasoit alumna, and former two-sport standout, Coach Veiga brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and passion to her new role.

Veiga returns to her alma mater with a decorated playing and coaching background, along with a deep commitment to empowering young women through sports and education—values that have guided her both on and off the court.

From 2007 to 2009, Veiga made her mark as a dynamic combo guard for the Massasoit Warriors. During her collegiate playing career, she was a two-time NJCAA Region 21 First Team selection, earned NJCAA National Player of the Week honors three times, and helped lead her team to an MCCAC Tournament Championship. She continued her academic and athletic journey at Curry College, where she graduated in 2013 and was named Basketball MVP in 2011.

Her outstanding contributions to both basketball and softball were recognized in 2017 when she was inducted into the Massasoit Athletics Hall of Fame.

"Coming back to Massasoit feels like a full-circle moment," said Coach Veiga. "This is where I discovered my passion, built lifelong relationships, and developed the confidence to lead. I'm honored to now help shape the next generation of student-athletes."

As a mother of two daughters, Coach Veiga brings not only her competitive drive but also a personal understanding of the importance of mentorship, resilience, and community. Her coaching philosophy centers around building confidence, accountability, and a strong team culture both on and off the court.

"Coach Veiga is not only a proven leader, but also a role model who embodies the mission and spirit of Massasoit Athletics," said Director of Athletics Erica Rivers. "Her return is a tremendous win for our student-athletes and the entire college community."

With her appointment, Massasoit looks forward to a new era of growth, determination, and excellence under Coach Veiga's leadership.
