Women’s Basketball Ranked No. 4 in Preseason Poll; Opens Hosting STCC on Saturday

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit women's basketball team earned the No. 4 ranking in the NJCAA preseason poll for the upcoming 2019-20 season. The Warriors host Springfield Tech to open the year on Saturday at 1 PM.

Massasoit returns one starter from last season's 20-3 squad in guard Alyson Reid of Boston. Reid was an All-Region 21 Second Team selection a season ago, averaging 8.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.0 steals per game as a freshman.

The Warriors have one other sophomore, Ty Hawkins, a transfer from Jones County JC in Mississippi. Hawkins, a native of Brentwood, NY, averaged 5.6 points and 1.3 rebounds for the Bobcats a freshman guard.

Other student-athletes that will see time in the backcourt are freshman Shardajah Collins of Winter Have, Fla., and Kashley Reyes of Brockton.

The front court will feature a trio of freshmen in Adrianna Grant of Brentwood, N.Y., Aliza Bell of Stonington, Conn., and Ranasha Frazier of New Haven, Conn.

Mark Leszczyk returns for his second season as head coach of the Warriors and is just four wins shy of 300 for her collegiate coaching career. He will be assisted by Kisandra Ayanbeku and Lexi Udoji.
