Warrior Baseball Captures Slugfest vs HCC, 15-13
Sophomore Bryce Evans (Hull) hit what proved to be the game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give the Massasoit baseball a 15-13 slugfest victory vs Holyoke on Thursday afternoon at the Frizzell Baseball Complex.
Coach Marcus Perry earns first collegiate victory
BROCKTON, Mass. --- Sophomore Bryce Evans (Hull) hit what proved to be the game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give the Massasoit baseball a 15-13 slugfest victory vs Holyoke on Thursday afternoon at the Frizzell Baseball Complex.
Evans had a career day at the plate, finishing a single shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4, scored three times and added four RBI as the Warriors pounded out 13 hits in the victory. The homer marked the first of his career.
The win marked the first of the season for Massasoit (1-5, 1-0 R21), and the first in the coaching career of first-year skipper Marcus Perry. The win also came in the conference opener against the HCC Cougars (0-1, 0-1 R21).
Jadon Ricci (South Easton) finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI, Nick Hedlund (Rochester) added two hits, two RBI and scored three times and Matt Kelly (East Bridgewater) added two hits. Frankie Manon (New Bedford) smoked a solo homer for the Warriors.
A seesaw scoring contest, produced a total of seven lead changes, as the two clubs combined to score 28 runs off 30 hits.
Trailing 11-10 entering the bottom of the eighth, Massasoit exploded for five runs to secure the victory. Ricci ripped a RBI double, followed by a run-scoring single from Hedlund. That was followed by the two-run big fly off the bat of Evans. Nick Thibeault (Bridgewater) added a RBI triple to round out the scoring for the Warriors.
Ricci earned the win in relief, collecting the final five outs for Massasoit on the hill.
Nick Kreuzer paced Holyoke's offense, going 5-for-6 with seven RBI.
The Warriors travel for a twinbill at Holyoke on Saturday at 12 PM.
