BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit Athletics Department recently named Marcus Perry as the next head baseball coach to lead the Warrior program. Perry served as an assistant coach for the Warriors for three seasons before being elevated to the head coach position.
"Marcus is the perfect fit for the Massasoit baseball program," Athletics Director Ben Warnick said. "He brings energy, connects with our student-athletes and has great knowledge of the game. I know he will take this opportunity and run with it."
Perry joined the Massasoit program in 2018, serving on former head coach Kraig Kupiec's staff. The 2019 team qualified for the NJCAA Region 21 Tournament for the 38th consecutive season and saw freshman Ian Nadeau named First Team All-Region 21.
During his time as an assistant with the Warriors, Perry was involved in recruiting, practice planning and strength training. He primarily worked with the outfielders and base runners and also served as the first base coach.
"It's super exciting to take the reins of the Massasoit baseball program," Perry said. "It was great to be a part of the program as an assistant prior to taking over and to learn the great history of Massasoit baseball. I really bought into the former staff's ideas, but I have my own philosophy to take over a program to guide it to where I think it has the potential to go.
"We all know Massasoit at one time was a real baseball powerhouse and I know we have the ability, the support and the staff, to really bring it back to where it once was to a championship contender. It is thrilling to have this opportunity."
Prior to joining the Warrior staff, Perry served as head coach for the Apex Braves, a showcase league AAU program located in Taunton for two years.
From 2014-2017, Perry was the Director of Baseball Operations and head coach of Thieves Baseball, where he coached several youth teams ranging in age from 11 to 18 years old. He helped expand the program from four to eight teams, oversaw 18 staff members and used analytics to help assist the program and improve the league members.
Perry also gained coaching experience by serving as an assistant coach at Coyle Cassidy High School for two seasons.
"I cannot wait for the season to be underway and get after it with these guys," Perry said.
A Taunton native, Perry currently resides in Norton, Mass., and serves as a Special Education Teacher in the Taunton school system.
