KANSAS CITY, Missouri --- Devondre Armstrong of the Massasoit men's soccer team was named United Soccer Coaches Junior College Player of the Week for his outstanding performance at CCRI last week.
The freshman from Barnstable produced a career day in leading the Massasoit men's soccer team to capture its sixth straight Region 21 Championship. Against rival CCRI, on the road, the Warriors fell into a 2-0 hole just 10 minutes into the match. However, Armstrong put Massasoit on his back, responding with a hat trick in the first half to eventual give the Warriors a 5-2 victory.
Entering the tilt at CCRI, Armstrong had not scored a goal all season before finding the net three times against the Knights. The victory gave Massasoit a season series sweep of CCRI and the team's sixth consecutive Region 21 Championship and 28th in program history. Massasoit will now host the NJCAA Northeast District Tournament this weekend.
Armstrong is the second Massasoit men's soccer to earn the weekly award this season, joining freshman goalie David Isaac.
