Men’s Soccer Hosts NJCAA Northeast District Tournament

Saturday's Semifinal Games at Stonehill College

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's soccer team will host the 2018 NJCAA Northeast District Tournament this weekend. Due to inclement weather forecasted for Saturday, the two semifinal contests have been moved to Stonehill College, with the championship being held back on Massasoit's campus.

Semifinals - Saturday, Nov. 3
Game 1: Massasoit (7-6-0) vs Monroe CC (9-4-1) at 2:30 PM (Stonehill College)
Game 2: Monroe College (8-1-2) vs Essex County (11-1-0) at 4:30 PM (Stonehill College)

Finals - Sunday, Nov. 4
Game 1 Winner vs Game 2 Winner at 1 PM (Massasoit Community College)

HOW THE WARRIORS GOT HERE: Massasoit swept the season series against Region 21 rival CCRI, claiming the season finale 5-2 in comeback fashion. The victory gave the Warriors their sixth straight Region 21 Championship and 28th in program history.

>> In the Region 21 Championship clinching victory at CCRI, Massasoit trailed 2-0 just 10 minutes in the contest. However, the Warriors rallied, thanks to a first half hat trick by freshman Devondre Armstrong as Massasoit claimed the 5-2 victory.

>> Massasoit is 1-1 against the tournament field, topping Monroe CC on the road (W, 2-1) and falling at home to Monroe College (L, 6-0).

>> After starting the season 1-4, Massasoit turned things around going 6-2 the rest of the way.

Player to Watch: Junior Pereira, F/MF (9g, 5a)

HOW THE TRIBUNES GOT HERE: Monroe CC snuck past Mercyhurst North East, 2-1, on a soaked field in Pennsylvania to capture the Region 3 Championship for the fifth straight season and 23rd in program history.

>> Monroe CC is 0-2 against the tournament field, falling at home to Massasoit (L, 2-1) and at home to Monroe College (L, 2-1 2OT).

>> The Tribunes have posted eight shutouts during the 2018 season and ranked seventh in the country in goals against average (0.70).

>> Isaiah Lee leads the Tribunes in goals (19) and points (42) on the season.

Player to Watch: Kyle Bimek, GK (7-1, 0.40 GAA, 6 Shutouts)

HOW THE MUSTANGS GOT HERE: Monroe College survived the Region 15 Championship by defeating ASA in penalty kicks, 5-4, to advance to the district tournament.

>> Monroe is 2-0 vs the tournament field, defeating both Massasoit (W, 6-0) and Monroe CC (W, 2-1 2OT) on the road.

>> The Mustangs started the season 6-0, but has gone 2-1-2 to close out the season.

>> Monroe is currently ranked No. 9 in the most recent NJCAA National Poll.

Player to Watch: Luca Erhardt, F (6g, 2a)

HOW THE WOLVERINES GOT HERE: Essex edged Rowan Burlington, 1-0, in the Region 19 Championship to advance to the NJCAA Northeast District Tournament.

>> The Wolverines have been a well-oiled machine in 2018, posting an 11-1 record with the lone blemish coming in a 3-1 loss to Bryant & Stratton, a non-NJCAA opponent.

>> Essex County currently ranks No. 8 in the most recent NJCAA National Poll.

>> Walter Hernandez is the Wolverines do-it-all forward, leading the squad in goals (9) and points (19).
