BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Nick Andrews (Raynham) knocked in three runs but two big innings proved to be the difference as the University of Connecticut at Avery Point topped the Massasoit baseball team, 16-6, on Tuesday at Colombo Field.
Massasoit (3-8) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as the Warriors sent eight batters to the plate in their first at bat. Preston Rankin and Andrews crossed home on a wild pitch and passed ball to give the Warriors an early advantage.
UCAP (12-5-1) responded by scoring 10 runs between the third and fifth frames to own a 10-4 advantage, as that stretch proved to be the difference in the ball game.
John Tinker (Weymouth) posted a 2-for-5, one-RBI day at the dish, while Andrews added three RBI, including a two-run single in the fourth inning.
Next up for the Warriors is a Thursday contest at Holyoke CC, slated for 4 PM.
